The Living Edge: Coastal Climate Buffer Zone
The current zoo site is directly threatened by sea-level rise, storm surge, and erosion.
Overview
A 20-acre rewilded stretch of ocean-adjacent public land that transforms the EcoPark’s western boundary into a living defense system against climate change. The Living Edge responds with an immersive, ecologically rich zone that restores native habitats while buffering the park and nearby neighborhoods.
Why This Matters
This is where climate adaptation meets ecological restoration. By rewilding 20 acres of vulnerable shoreline, The Living Edge models how cities can partner with nature to protect biodiversity, property, and people. It provides a sanctuary for imperiled native species while showing the public what real climate resilience looks like in action.
